A Bachelor degree with Honours in Economics is a three-year degree course consists of eight honours papers distributed over the 3 years as (2+2+4) of 100 marks each along with two other elective general subjects consisting of six papers (each) of 50 marks each distributed over the first two years of the course. Candidates opt for Economics honours must have Mathematics in their +2 level. However, for general course Economics there is no compulsion of mathematics. But it is expected that the candidates opt for Economics general having good concepts of elementary arithmetic.

Economics as a discipline deals with the problem of meeting infinite human demand with finite volume of resources. Therefore, optimal  use of the resources in production to maximize the welfare level of human society not only for the present generation but also of the future by the efficient distribution of the produced goods and services through the marketing mechanism both at the local level as well as global level. At the same time it theorizes the observed behavior of the economic agents through qualitative and quantitative analysis of data as well as to test their validity and forecasts their future behavior in order to undertake long term development planning.
